What a crazy week

Jet lag had nothing on me this week. Not sure if I mentioned in my previous post, but I just got back from a trip to Dubai last weekend. I had to hit the ground running at full speed this week, so I am glad for the most part I was able to operate mostly on my home timezone with little need for jolts of caffeine.

I started a new job on Monday, same company but different position with lots of new responsibilities. Of course, as one finds when they stay at their current place and just move positions some carryover from the last job is still there so I was working on getting caught up on what I missed while I was out for the past week all while trying to ramp up into my new role.

The fun at the office meant since I was starting a new role, somehow my access to my computer amongst other things weren’t transitioned quite as smoothly as one would like so I was having to operate in pre-computer days mode for a little bit. Also one day I took the stairs up 9 flights (little bit of exercise since I am skipping the gym this week) only to find out my badge wasn’t working to let me on the floor.  Since I have a little phobia (okay, maybe more than a little) of stairs I was not about to head down to the main level so I was grateful when someone came along to help me get onto the floor.  Hahaha

New gadgets

Once I would get home I would desperately try to get through pictures and videos so I can provide a synopsis of my trips. As mentioned I was on 3 trips within a matter of 5 weeks. My full intention was to go in order of my travels, but the excitement of my trip the Middle East is still coursing through my veins so I am starting there.

Hate to admit it but I am a slow adopter on transitioning with technology.  While I love my laptop, it is 8 years old, It works well for the most part but boy is she slow from time to time. I know I needed to get a new one but I was putting it off. I am proud to say I finally pulled the trigger and I felt like a kid on Christmas morning waking up on Saturday just waiting for the delivery guy to arrive at my door with my new laptop.

I did some research to select the laptop that I thought would work best for me, something that I felt would be lightweight enough to travel with so I can maybe get a little more real time with my updates but had enough horsepower to do the job.  Unboxing was a little bit of a treat as I felt like I was going through Russian nesting dolls, took my 3 boxes to get to the laptop.

It is SO SHINY!! Okay, I can admit I should have upgraded sooner, this computer is lightning fast and the graphics are amazing! It has been hard to pull myself away from it this weekend while working on transferring off of the old computer and working through final processing of the pictures from the Dubai trip. Thankfully Jimi and Cooper were being helpful and keeping me company, okay maybe not so much on the helpful side but they were being good at being cute. They also were a big fan of the delivery so they have some new boxes and packing material to play with.

What’s up for this week?

I will be working on the updates to give you a play by play of my trip to Dubai. In the meantime, check out the ‘Feature of the Week’ from one of the nights we had in the desert.

Also, I’m hoping to keep tweaking and enhancing the website to get the look down. As always, I appreciate your patience while I get this up and running the way I want it to.

A few things I will be researching/following this week:

  1. How to use Nikon’s Snapbridge. For the life of me I have not been able to ever see my pictures on my Snapbridge app (I shoot RAW but keep the JPEG as backups so I should be able to see those at least).
  2. Looking up what items are best to take on Safari. I head to Tanzania in July and I am working on compiling a list of what items I will take on that trip.
  3. I am closely following the laptop/electronics proposed ban the US is looking to add for flights to/from Europe. This concerns me as I do not want to put my camera gear and laptop in the hold of the plane.

I welcome any tips/tricks/thoughts on any of these items.

How was your week? What fun adventures (near or far) did you have?
