I had planned on sleeping in, I didn’t set the alarm, I hunkered down for the night.  I woke up way too early, the lake beckoning me to visit.  The sun started to glint on the horizon.  I said no many times in my head but the pull of a sunrise forced me out of bed, pulling on many layers of clothes and grabbing my gear.  I went down to the shoreline. It wasn’t what I really wanted, the large unsettling waves that only Lake Superior herself can produce but a relatively calm still morning with a wave that would come through every so often to create a backsplash into the sky.  Sometimes you don’t get what you want but you do get what you need. A beautiful sunrise can soothe and heal the soul.
